EAA SportAir Workshop in Composite Construction
As a member of EAA I had the oportunty to participate in the 2106 Houston's version for Composite Construction Workshop. This is a course that is open to anyone, no need to be a member of EAA. Just a tip: the discount to EAA members on the general public price pays for the membership, plus the additional EAA benefits.
What a great experience! The workshop not only allows you to develop basic skills and get familiar with composite construction methods; It allows you to meet great people as well.
Thank you so much to Mark Forss, our instructor, a great speaker, open to answer all kind of questions, encouraging in the practices. The venue was unmatchable, the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, in Houston, just across Hobby Airport.
The workshop is organize in such way that optimize time, we jumped into hands on exercises rigth away. We did hot wire foam cutting, mixing resins and fillers/primers, glass cutting, glass lamination, cooking parts to speed-up the cure process, vacumm bagging, poor man's prep of wet glass, molding, gluing parts, fixing foam, fixing layups, and more. It is incredible the amount of things that you are expose in just two days.
At the end we have a cured canard section and a T of sandwich composite with tree finishing techniques on surface and to method to finishing joins!
All over all great!
Now ready for more practice and challenges.
